Partners break ground on two new permanent housing developments

AUSTIN (May 30, 2024) – Partners working to end homelessness in our community broke ground on two separate housing developments this month, adding 160 new units of supportive housing in the next couple years for people ending their homelessness.

Caritas of Austin will operate Cairn Point Cameron, a development that will serve older adults. The City of Austin, Travis County, Caritas of Austin, and funding and construction partners celebrated the groundbreaking May 7. Cairn Point Cameron will add 100 units of site-based Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) to our Homelessness Response System, contributing to the 1,000 new PSH units community partners expect to complete in the next few years.

Partners broke ground on Seabrook Square II May 10, an expansion of an affordable housing complex that began construction last year. Travis County leaders celebrated the groundbreaking, one of the 11 housing projects announced as part of their Supportive Housing Initiative Pipeline (SHIP) that commits $110 million to deeply affordable housing. Integral Care will operate the 60-unit development, which will be dedicated to people who need both short- and long-term housing options within our Continuum of Care (CoC).

Both developments will provide people places to live paired with rental assistance and individualized supportive services to ensure they can remain housed long term. Learn more about Cairn Point Cameron and Seabrook Square II.
